Terms of Use for the ScrollZero app

Last updated: 1 November 2026 · Deutsche Fassung (massgeblich)

This is a translation. If the German and English versions differ, the German version prevails.

The ScrollZero app (Android, package name com.simestudio.scrollzero) is provided by:

These terms apply to the use of ScrollZero and to purchases of ScrollZero Plus. Google Play's terms and policies additionally apply to downloads and payments. How we handle data is explained in the Privacy Policy.

By installing and using the app you accept these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

2. What ScrollZero is

ScrollZero is a productivity app that helps you use selected apps more mindfully: when you open an app you have chosen, a short pause appears with the question "Did you want something specific?", an interest link and small games; in addition there is a daily budget, mindful sessions, focus times, limits (overall and per app), the "break from the pauses" (suspend pauses for a while), statistics, a weekly review, milestones, a home screen widget with two numbers and, as a second lock type, the paper key (section 11a).

The app works without an account. The pause screen requires ScrollZero's Android accessibility service to be switched on; parts of the statistics use the optional usage access. The paper key needs the "Camera" permission, but only to read the QR code (details in the Privacy Policy).

3. Not a medical device, not therapy

ScrollZero is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, prevent, monitor, treat or alleviate any disease, addiction or mental disorder. Its content (e.g. questions on the pause, interest links, games) consists of general suggestions for self-organisation and does not replace medical, psychological or therapeutic advice. If you feel distressed or suspect a serious problem with your media use, please contact a professional.

4. Minimum age

ScrollZero is intended for people aged 18 and over. There is no technical age check.

5. Free week and ScrollZero Plus

You can use ScrollZero with all features for free for 7 days from the first start, without payment details. The 7 days are counted on your device and begin when you first open the app. After that, the pause and the lock are switched off; your numbers and insights remain visible. A purchase switches ScrollZero back on immediately. If you have already bought ScrollZero Plus (subscription or forever), you keep all features.

ScrollZero Plus is offered as:

  • Monthly subscription: CHF 4.90 per month,
  • Yearly subscription: CHF 29.90 per year,
  • Forever (one-time purchase): CHF 69.00.

These prices apply in Switzerland and include any VAT. In other countries, the price and currency shown by Google Play before purchase apply. The price you confirm in Google Play's purchase dialog is always decisive. There is no trial from Google Play; the 7 free days are those of the app. There is no advertising.

6. Purchase and payment via Google Play

Purchases are concluded and paid exclusively via Google Play. Google Play's terms apply, and payment is processed by Google. We do not receive payment details. A purchase is tied to the Google account used to make it; on another device with the same Google account you can reactivate it in the app via "Restore purchases".

7. Subscription terms

Term and renewal: The monthly subscription runs for one month, the yearly subscription for one year. The subscription renews automatically for the same term at the then current price until you cancel. Google Play charges the fee at the start of each term to the payment method stored with Google.

Cancellation: You can cancel at any time in the Google Play app → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → ScrollZero or at play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions. The app contains a direct link. Deleting the app or its data does not cancel the subscription. After cancellation, Plus remains active until the end of the term already paid for; after that protection is switched off if your 7 free days have expired (section 5); your numbers remain visible. There is no pro-rata refund for partial terms unless mandatory law or section 9 provides otherwise.

Price changes: Price changes for existing subscriptions are announced via Google Play according to its rules. Where Google Play requires your consent, the subscription ends at the end of the current term if you do not consent. You can cancel before a price change takes effect.

Payment problems: If Google cannot collect payment, Google Play may grant a grace period or pause or end the subscription. Plus may then be locked until payment has been made.

8. "Forever" purchase

"Forever" is a one-time purchase without renewal. It unlocks the Plus features of the ScrollZero app for the Google account without time limit, for as long as we offer the app and it runs on your device. It does not include any right to future, separate products.

9. Withdrawal and refunds

Refunds are handled via Google Play and are subject to Google Play's refund policies. As a rule, you can request a refund directly from Google within 48 hours of purchase. After that you can contact us (hello@simestudio.com, with Google's order number starting with "GPA."); we will consider your request fairly and can refund fully or partly via Google Play.

For consumers in the EEA and the United Kingdom: A statutory right of withdrawal for digital content and services exists in accordance with the applicable law and Google Play's terms. The right of withdrawal may lapse if you have expressly agreed that performance begins before the withdrawal period ends and acknowledged that you thereby lose your right of withdrawal; Google Play obtains this consent in the purchase dialog where applicable. Mandatory consumer rights remain reserved in all cases.

In Switzerland there is no statutory right of withdrawal for purchases concluded online.

10. Licence

You receive a simple, non-transferable right to use ScrollZero for personal, non-commercial purposes on your devices. All rights to the app, its texts, graphics and the name ScrollZero remain with SIME Studio. You may not modify, decompile or resell the app unless expressly permitted by law.

11. Availability and functional limits

We develop ScrollZero with care but cannot guarantee that the app will always work without errors or interruption. In particular, Android, device manufacturers (e.g. through battery-saving features) or updates of other apps may stop the accessibility service or delay the pause screen. You can switch ScrollZero off in Android Settings or uninstall it at any time; the app deliberately does not lock any system settings. An absolute lock is not possible on Android: ScrollZero makes it harder to open selected apps but does not make it impossible. Phone and emergency call apps, Android Settings and the Google Play Store can never be paused. On some devices the pause screen appears as an accessibility window on top of the app; pressing "Back" five times in quick succession always closes it.

You are responsible for which apps you pause and which limits or focus times you set. Do not select apps you need without delay at all times (e.g. for work, health or safety).

We may further develop the app, change or add features and discontinue it with reasonable notice. Paid features will not be materially restricted during a current, paid subscription term without you being able to cancel and claim a pro-rata refund.

11a. Lock type paper key (optional)

Instead of the pause you can choose a paper key as the lock type. For this, ScrollZero creates a PDF with a QR code on your device, which you print and keep far away from your bed. To open a locked app, you scan the printout with the camera ("Camera" permission, only to read the QR code; details in section 3.9 of the Privacy Policy).

The paper key makes it harder to open locked apps, it does not make it impossible: Android does not allow an absolute lock, and settings and uninstalling are never locked. There are 3 emergency releases per week. If you go back from a key to the pause or create a new key, waiting periods apply (10 minutes and 24 hours respectively). A new key makes the old printout invalid. A lost printout is not replaced without the waiting period running out. While a key is active, "Delete all data" and loading a backup are locked in the app, so that there is no way around the waiting period.

If your daily budget is used up, the selected apps stay closed until midnight; only the emergency releases remain possible. Do not select apps you need at all times (section 11). Section 11 otherwise applies accordingly.

12. Liability

We are liable without limitation for damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence and for personal injury. Otherwise, our liability is excluded to the extent permitted by law; in particular, we are not liable for indirect damage, lost profit, missed messages or appointments, or loss of data on your device. The free week is provided without warranty.

Mandatory statutory liability, in particular under product liability law, and mandatory consumer rights remain reserved. For consumers in the EEA: in cases of slight negligence we are liable only for breach of essential contractual obligations and limited to foreseeable, typical damage.

13. Changes to these terms

We may amend these terms, for example for new features or changes in the law. We will announce material changes in the app or in the store listing. For running subscriptions, changes apply from the next renewal; if you do not agree, you can cancel beforehand. The current version is available at simestudio.com/scrollzero/terms.

14. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by Swiss law, excluding the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG) and conflict-of-law rules.

Place of jurisdiction is Sarnen (Canton of Obwalden), Switzerland.

Mandatory consumer rights remain reserved: consumers may also sue at their place of residence and may only be sued there where the law so provides (e.g. Art. 32 Swiss Civil Procedure Code, Lugano Convention). For consumers habitually resident in the EU or EEA, the choice of law applies only insofar as it does not deprive them of the protection of mandatory provisions of the law of their country of residence.

15. Final provisions

If any provision is invalid, the rest remains valid. If the German and English versions differ, the German version prevails. Please send questions and complaints to hello@simestudio.com.
